On the exhibition CES 2007 company hitachi demonstrated the four-layer disk blu-ray with a capacity of 100 Gb (25 Gb for each layer). In the demonstration was reported that used standard drive blu-ray. Let us recall that in the past year about the same disks reported panasonic company and TDK witch made a rate to six-layer blu-ray capacity 200 Gb. However, Hitachi became the first company which showed the possibility of reading disk blu-ray with high capacity using a standard DVD-ROM.

In reality in that used four layer drive lg -Hitachi GBW-H10N were introduced the changes, which touched its microprogram (firmware) and head optical system . All the remaining units of drive were not touched upon. Demonstration is past at the level of the oscillograph, to which was connected the drive. For each of four layers disk were recorded series of chains : 3T - for first layer (L0), 4T - for L1, 5T - for L2 and 6T - for L3. Accordingly, for each of layer oscillogram took its own form.

According to Hitachi, the development of new technology required the creation of mechanism for the determination of layer number , with which the drive works in the current moment. Company does not reveal, what precisely method is used by it.

In future 100- Gb disks blu-ray can be used for storing video in format digital cinema. For example, to this disk would be possible to write down 3,5 hours of video bitrate 64 Mbit/s and with resolution 4096 x 2048 pixel.
